For years, the SEO scene in India was pretty simple. Find the right keyword, stuff it enough times in your page and you are good to go. That world is rapidly disappearing. Google, Bing, and now generative engines like ChatGTP, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews don’t think in strings of text anymore, they think in entities. An entity is a discrete ‘thing’ (person, place, brand, product or concept) that exists in a knowledge graph with defined relationships to other things. If you run a business in Indore, your company is an entry in this graph, connected to your location, your industry, your founders and your customers.
This is a huge change for local and regional businesses. Consider a CA firm in Indore. The old-school SEO would be obsessed with ranking for exact-match phrases like “CA firm Indore” or “tax consultant Indore”. Entity SEO is more about asking the question of, “Does Google know this company even exists? Where is it located? Who owns it? What services does it offer? How does it fit in the overall Indore business ecosystem?” This is achieved through consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data, a fully optimized Google Business Profile, structured data markup, Wikipedia or Wikidata presence where applicable, and mentions in authoritative local directories and news sites.
Keywords are not as important as knowledge graphs because AI based search no longer retrieves documents, it retrieves facts and relationships, and then synthesizes an answer. When an AI assistant is asked, “which are the most trusted wealth management firms in Indore,” the engine isn’t looking for the literal phrase. It’s cross-referencing entities it already knows are credible, local and topically relevant. If your business has not been established as an entity, with structured citations, authoritative backlinks and clear semantic signals, then you will not exist in that answer, no matter how well your keywords are optimized.
So how actually a business builds strength of entities? Start by claiming your Google Business Profile and filling in all the details – categories, services, photos – correctly. Make sure your business name, address, and phone number are identical across every directory JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, and local business listings. Be featured in local publications like Free Press Journal editions, Patrika or Naidunia. These are reputable sources that validate your entity in the eyes of Google and AI crawlers alike. If applicable, create or update a Wikidata entry for your organization, as many generative engines pull directly from these open knowledge bases.
Entity SEO on-page is content that clearly defines relationships. Instead of general statements, be specific. “XYZ Consultancy, based in Vijay Nagar, Indore, specializes in GST compliance for manufacturing SMEs in Madhya Pradesh.” This sentence provides the search engines and AI models with several entities to link – the business, the neighborhood, the city, the service, the industry vertical. Schema markup (which we’ll talk about in tomorrow’s post) formalizes these relationships in machine-readable code, but the content still needs to express them in plain language first.
And the businesses that will dominate the search-and-AI-visibility landscape in the next few years will not be the ones with the maximum keywords stuffed into their homepage. They have become unequivocal, well-documented entities, always described and always located and always connected to the topics and communities they serve. If you are looking to future-proof your online presence then stops thinking in keywords and start thinking in entities. Audit your NAP consistency this week, fill every hole in your Google Business Profile, and begin to build the citation network that tells Google exactly who you are.
